I read all the reviews and was a little nervous about buying it but I went ahead. I received it at work so set it up at first on our work network and it worked fine. Then I took it home and I couldn't not get it to work on my wifi - which is EXACTLY the same as work (both on Mac/Airport). I contacted customer support first by email and that was pretty useless. Then I got on the phone and after a long wait got through to someone who was able to help me. Even though the wifi systems were the same, my home one wouldn't accept a password - I had to put in the WEP key even though all other accessories on my wifi system accept a password. Once I put the wep key in, it works like a charm. Its clearer than skype via my computer. So I love it now! The only problem is my friends still don't understand that my skype is on ALL THE TIME and not to call me at 3.00am!! Once my friends are housebroken, it will be fine!

At first, the Netgear SPH200W made me want to go back to my Keyspan Skype phone, which is tinny and needs the Skype program on your computer, but is stable. The Netgear sound, on the other hand, was so sketchy for me and so horrendous for those I was talking to, and they often heard their voice in echo. To make matters worse, once I had updated the firmware on the Netgear phone, I couldn't connect to the alphabetical password on my wi-fi connection (which has 128 bit security). Instead, I had to find out the endlessly long series of numbers that the WEP password stood for and key them in. Finally, sometimes when I charged the phone (I never knew when to do it, because the little battery picture would show a full charge until the phone was almost out of juice), the phone began whistling as soon as I put it on the cradle, even when the cradle was unplugged! But the main problem was the poor connection, which my friends on the other end of the line begged me to do something about. First I ordered the recommended Motorola earpiece and mic from Amazon, and the mic didn't work with it! Only the earphone part did. But I happened to have the earpiece/mic that came with my old cell phone, a Sony-Ericsson P910. Once I'd attached that (and I had to attach it several times before the phone was aware it was attached), the sound on both sides was a dream: perfect clarity, no echo. The only remaining problem was that it was so loud for me that I have to operate the phone with the volume turned almost all the way down. (In fact, it's something to be careful about in general. During the dozens of times I called the Skype Test Call number, the harsh voice of the recording practically blew my eardrums out on several occasions.) But I'm so glad I didn't give up, because now my call experiences are every bit as clear and stable as when I was using a quality earphones/mic plugged into my computer with Skype. If you can go to the Sony Ericsson site and order the cheapest most basic ear/mic accessory for the P910 phone, you should be able to solve the problems as I did. That particular phone takes the same size jack as the Netgear SPH100W. I hope this has been helpful to some of you.

The quality of sound is very good, like a normal telephone. The only thing is it is a little slow to input new contacts (you better do it through your computer.
I love the convenience, I put it close to the bed and I dont have to get up to get a skype call or to make one.
I recommed this product. I havent tried it outside the house, I mean in an airport or somewehere where wireless internet is available, but I will do so soon.

it is a skype wifi phone which you can use anywhere there is WIFI (that doesn't need browser authentication) as advertised.

it is a well-designed phone in terms of looks and usability. size is very mobilephone like very handy and portable that is how i like it. how it is used and the power source is very easy to find/locate(almost acts like a Nokia phone, even the battery is compatible with Nokia BL-5C and BL-5CA which i actually charged using the Netgear wifi phone, used it and now charging it a second time while Original Netgear SPH200W battery remains untouched).

it has well-layed out menu and it is very intuitive too. i didn't even read the instruction manual nor did i open the bundled CD that came with it. i just got it out of the box, charged it (using Nokia BL-5CA battery) then use it immediately.

it has a good quality look to it. construction and color of body has a sense of class to it. even the screen is well-lit (i am not even using the full brightness setting). the keypad is in color cool blue and very pleasing to my sense of sight.

it's powersource charging and charger is very easy to acquire. you can buy a AC to USB adapter and a Standard Type A USB to Mini B USB connector then you are all set to go to connect from a car cigarette lighter or connect directly from any USB powered connections such as from a computer cpu.

its a versatile pocket communicator and has its own wonderful use/niche.

CONS:

its standby time is severely limited. But if you have extra batteries like me then it is nothing at all. i am always good to go by bring a few more pcs. of battery with me, the charger and the necessary USB cable so that i can always charge anywhere.

it is wifi-based, you have to accept its limitation. you need wifi.

it has no SMS/text (this i know by reading the specs) wish it has but i already accepted the fact that it doesn't. this is just another addition to my wishlist for improvements to this already good device.

it can't search using email address. i haven't read the manual nor did i try it. so i may be wrong about this one. someone correct me please?

it needs a firmware update, the firmware i got is already a year old. wish i knew if Netgear guys are developing new firmware so that its functionality and usability will further improve. i know for a fact that it has a lot of room for improvements such as extending the standby time thru firmware updates.

it needs accesories such as a silicon case so that the body will not be scratch and it will protect it from minor bumps and falls.

it needs a corded headset for privacy communication. Netgear didn't specify which headset will work but i suspect (but i haven't tried it yet) that Nokia headsets will work.

it is very dependent on the signal of wifi base station. the farther it is the more unclear the conversation will be. i still have to try how far away that my conversation will be unintelligible and garbled.;

Generally speaking. overall average i would like to say that i am very satisfied with what i bought. just make sure that you always remember the above pros and cons. it still has a lot room for improvements. hope Netgear guys will come out with a new model soon! it will always help the sales and marketing of this product if new models will come out regularly.

Skype is a great service but this phone doesn't accent it very well. I haven't tried another skype phone yet.

The sound quality was ok at first, but as we used it more it just seemed to cut out too much, kind of like a keyboard that skips a key intermittently. It's just too annoying to accept. It will work, don't get me wrong; so if you don't use the phone that much it might be acceptable for you.

The phone itself is nice and the menus and the operation is perfect. This seems to be the cheapest, lowest level skype phone there is, so I'm sure that the more expensive phones would be better.
